Prime Minister Rowley Visits USNS Comfort

 

Prime Minister Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley visited the U.S. Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort today (Tuesday 10 September, 2019). The medical vessel which was docked at the port in La Brea provided basic medical services to the people of Cedros, Debe, La Brea, Point Fortin and environs. A number of surgeries were also performed on board the ship.

Medical teams from the Comfort worked alongside local medical professionals to provide a range of medical services to adults and children. The US Embassy indicated that the ship’s visit was geared in part towards helping Trinidad and Tobago address the needs of cross-border migrants.

Prime Minister Rowley was invited to the tour and closing ceremony for the ship’s visit by U.S. Ambassador Joseph Mondello. He was accompanied by the Hon. Stuart Young, Minister of National Security and Minister of in the Office of the Prime Minister and the Hon. Dennis Moses, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs.

The ship’s visit marks the second to Trinidad and Tobago and the seventh to the region since 2007. Comfort medical teams will provide care in Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Panama, Saint Lucia and St. Kitts and Nevis during this deployment.
