The Opening of the New Sangre Grande Hospital Campus

Prime Minister Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley cut the ribbon to officially open the Sangre Grande Hospital Campus today (Wednesday 17th April, 2024).

The new facility will expand healthcare for the people of Sangre Grande and East Trinidad.

Operating in conjunction with the adjacent Sangre Grande Hospital and the Enhanced Health Centre, the new wing at the hospital is set to provide a comprehensive range of medical services.

Delivering his feature address, Dr Rowley noted that over the last ten years, healthcare delivery remained a top priority in Trinidad and Tobago.

He highlighted the construction of facilities in Couva, Point Fortin, Arima, Roxborough, Diego Martin, a Linear Accelerator (LINAC) wing at the St James Medical Complex specifically for cancer care, a hospital in Sangre Grande and the ongoing billion-dollar construction of the central block at the Port of Spain General Hospital as evidence of his Government’s commitment to the sector.

Prime Minister Rowley congratulated and thanked the staff and medical team at the Sangre Grande Hospital for providing quality health services over the years. He urged the staff at the hospital to take their role seriously.

The Sangre Grande Hospital will have a capacity of 106 inpatient beds:

– 24 in the Medical Ward,

– 24 in the Surgical Ward,

– 24 in the Trauma & Orthopaedic Ward,

– 24 in the General Ward,

– 10 in the High Dependency Care and Intensive Care Unit.

Three Operating Theatres:

– 1 Endoscopy Operating Theatre

– 1 Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) – 1 (1.5)

– 1 Computerized tomography (CT) – 1 (128)

– 2 Fixed X-Rays

– 1 Fluoroscopy

Minister of Health the Hon Terrence Deyalsingh and Member of Parliament for Toco/Sangre Grande the Hon Roger Monroe were also present at today’s opening.

Additionally, several Government Ministers, Members of Parliament, representatives from the Medical Fraternity, and staff and administrators of the Eastern Regional Health Authority joined Prime Minister Rowley at today’s event.
