Sod-Turning Ceremony for The Caura Housing Development

Prime Minister Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley delivered the feature address at the sod-turning ceremony for the construction of the new Caura Housing Development today (Tuesday 19th March, 2024).

Located on the Caura Royal Road, El Dorado, this housing development will feature 100 three-bedroom townhouse units and associated infrastructure. The site is designed to maintain as much natural vegetation as possible, with consideration given to the use of solar lighting for external areas.

During his address, Prime Minister Rowley said housing developments like these will not only provide homes for recipients but will also boost economic development in the country in the form of job opportunities. He said, “The 500 or so persons who will work on this site using different skills, that is what housing construction means to us … jobs, jobs, and more jobs. It will take almost a year and a half of good jobs on this site to move it from this pleasant valley to one where this location would be occupied by some of the finest quality housing in Trinidad and Tobago.”

Dr Rowley said the Government remains committed to building homes, keeping hospitals available, teaching the nation’s children, paying the public debt, providing social services, and continuing to fight the criminal elements in Trinidad and Tobago.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, the Hon. Camille Robinson-Regis, Minister in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the Hon. Adrian Leonce, Member of Parliament for Tunapuna, the Hon. Esmond Forde and Chairman of the Tunapuna Piarco Regional Corporation, Councillor Josiah Austin also attended today’s event.
