Post-Cabinet Media Briefing- Thursday 14th September, 2023

Prime Minister Dr the Hon Keith Rowley provided details regarding the recently concluded three-day working Cabinet retreat. Discussions focused on Trinidad and Tobago’s development programmes and plans for the upcoming National Budget.

Dr Rowley was speaking during a Post-Cabinet Media Briefing held at the Diplomatic Centre, St. Ann’s today (Thursday 14th September, 2023) where he provided the update.

Dr Rowley said 50 areas of Governmental activity were discussed with presentations by each Minister. He said areas of focus at the retreat included the economy, crime and energy security.

Prime Minister Rowley said following today’s Cabinet meeting a decision was made to approve the appointment of a new National Quarries Company Limited board to ramp up the country’s road rehabilitation programme. Effective August 30th, the company was assigned to the Ministry of Works and Transport.

Turning his attention to the energy sector, Dr Rowley said he expects the signing off on the restructuring of Atlantic LNG to occur before the end of the year. He said the team at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries have done significant work and are very close to inking the restructuring.

Prime Minister Rowley will lead a ministerial team to the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The team will include the Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Senator the Hon Dr Amery Browne, Minister of Planning and Development, the Hon Pennelope Beckles and the Minister of Health, the Hon Terrence Deyalsingh. His Excellency, Dennis Francis of Trinidad and Tobago has been appointed the President of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
