Energy Meetings Engage the Attention of the Prime Minister Today

Prime Minister, Dr the Honourable Keith Rowley engaged in several meetings at the Office of the Prime Minister today (Wednesday 7 February, 2018), which included two that focussed on the energy industry.

Prime Minister Rowley received an update on Shell’s various upstream exploration projects from the energy company’s Executive Vice President Integrated Gas Ventures, De La Rey Venter and Vice President and Country Chairman Shell Trinidad and Tobago, Derek Hudson.

Minister in the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs and the Office of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Stuart Young was also present for the meeting.

Shell, which recently acquired the holdings of BG, Repsol and other smaller entities, is now a major player along the entire value chain in the energy business in Trinidad and Tobago. Shell is also partnering with the National Gas Company (NGC) on the Government of Trinidad and Tobago/Venezuela initiative with respect to the development of a supply of gas from Venezuela’s Dragon Field.

Today’s discussion focussed on all these issues as well as the marketing arrangements of natural gas from Trinidad and Tobago.

Prime Minister Rowley also met today with members of the Wendell Mottley sub-unit of the Standing Committee on Energy of the Cabinet where he received a presentation which centered on the gas industry in Trinidad and Tobago.
