Commissioning of the Malabar Government Primary School.

Prime Minister Dr the Hon Keith Rowley officially commissioned the Malabar Government Primary School today (Thursday 26th August, 2021). This is the third primary school commissioned by the Prime Minister within the last two weeks.

Dr Rowley said during his feature address that these recently delivered schools are part of a larger programme and are an example of the Government’s commitment to education.

The Prime Minister said he hoped that soon the schoolyards will be filled with children and teachers and though they take possession of an empty school today, it is with the “full knowledge that our future is assured, even as we grapple with a pandemic”.

Also speaking at the event was Minister of Education, Dr the Hon Nyan Gadsby-Dolly who thanked all those involved in the process of the school’s delivery.

The Minister said the Ministry of Education is providing support to teachers, students and parents during the virtual school term. This support includes the distribution of devices to students as well as providing mental health and psychosocial support. She also encouraged parents to have their children vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus to allow for them to return to face-to-face classes.

The new school, completed at a cost of $25 million, comprises four blocks, 21 classrooms, a science lab, computer room, multi-purpose hall among other special-purpose rooms and has a student capacity of 622 students.

The Hon Lisa Morris-Julian, Member of Parliament for D’Abadie /O’ Meara and Minister in the Ministry of Education was also present at the event.
