CARICOM Leaders Arrive in Belize for One-Day Summit

 

Prime Minister, Dr the Honourable Keith Rowley is in Belize for the IV CARICOM-Mexico Summit.

The Prime Minister along with the President of Guyana, His Excellency David A. Granger, Prime Minister of Barbados, the Honourable Freundel Stuart, Prime Minister of Grenada, Dr the Honourable Keith Mitchell, CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque and their respective delegations arrived in Belize City at 6:30 PM local time (8:30 PM Trinidad and Tobago time).

The Prime Minister and his CARICOM colleagues travelled to Belize on an aircraft provided by the Government of Mexico.

Tomorrow morning, (Wednesday 25 October, 2017) CARICOM heads of Government will meet in caucus. Following this, there will be a full day of meetings and discussions between the leaders of CARICOM and Mexico.

Mexican President, His Excellency Enrique Peña Nieto and the Prime Minister of Belize, the Honourable Dean Barrow will co-chair the one-day summit which aims to consolidate the gains acquired following the III CARICOM-Mexico Summit which took place in Merida, Yucatan, April 2014.

The scheduled talks further endorses the importance Mexico places on cooperation with the Caribbean in matters of security, migration, climate change mitigation and the prevention of natural disasters.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to leave Belize at mid-morning on Thursday 26 October, 2017.
