Hayes Court Official Handover Ceremony

Prime Minister Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley attended the official Handover Ceremony of Hayes Court located in Port of Spain yesterday (Tuesday 28th March, 2023).

Since 1910, Hayes Court has stood as a heritage site and is known as the official residence of the Anglican Bishop in Trinidad and Tobago. After an advanced state of disrepair, a restoration project for the building commenced in 2000.

The Office of the Prime Minister through the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (UDeCOTT) obtained the Cabinet’s approval to assist in the restoration of Hayes Court. UDeCOTT in collaboration with the Incorporated Trustees of the Anglican Diocese of Trinidad and Tobago, successfully completed the restoration of the building within 18 months.

Delivering the feature address, Prime Minister Rowley said the nation’s history should be preserved for future generations and that each Government must ensure that historical buildings are preserved “largely in the state in which they have been built.”

The Right Reverend Claude Berkley, Bishop of Trinidad and Tobago during his remarks thanked the Government and their respective agencies for their spirit of collaboration and goodwill.

Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, the Hon. Stuart Young, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister – Communications, the Hon. Symon de Nobriga, Minister of Finance, the Hon. Colm Imbert, His Worship Joel Martinez, Mayor of Port of Spain were among the specially invited guests in attendance.
