45th Regular Meeting of the CARICOM Heads of Government Day One

Prime Minister Dr the Hon Keith Rowley joined regional leaders for day one of the 45th Regular Meeting of the CARICOM Heads of Government held at the Hyatt Regency, Trinidad today (Tuesday 04th July, 2023).

Before the start of this morning’s plenary session, several foreign Government representatives and heads of international organisations paid tribute to the CARICOM Community in honour of the 50th Anniversary milestone. Prime Minister of Korea, His Excellency Han Duck-soo, Her Excellency Hua Chunying, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, The People’s Republic of China and the Executive President of the CAF – Development Bank of Latin America, Mr Sergio Díaz-Granados were among the invited guests who delivered celebratory remarks.

During today’s plenary sessions, regional leaders focussed on many critical issues including the CARICOM Single Market and Economy and expanding the free movement of people, climate change and finance, the regional coordination ahead of COP 28 and food security and the ongoing efforts to reduce food imports by 25 percent by 2025.
