I note that such a fundamental shift as is envisioned by the Report must be duly recognised as a gradual and long-term process. Much has been done and much is still to be done, but through an unwavering commitment to the development process, I am confident that we will continue to enhance our citizen security.

Commencement of construction of UWI South Campus Penal/Debe

Education is the most significant means of empowering our people, enabling many to enjoy access to better opportunities and creating alternatives for building a better life. This University Campus will also continue to play a vital role in defining new boundaries. It must seek to offer a vast research base to develop a fresh new workforce, promote goodwill among its alumni and the ability to objectively look at disparate views, and ensure a deep commitment to local communities.

Residential Lease Distribution Ceremony

The National Vision, as espoused in the Medium-term Policy Framework document, states "that through creativity, innovation and collaboration, we shall prosper together." This distribution of residential leases speaks to other issues which are high on the agenda of this Government :- job creation, business development, poverty reduction, community development and so on.The construction of houses in these communities will create jobs, small contractors, and spin off businesses. Today's event will breathe further life into these communities and by extension, the Nation.

First Female Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago

The Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, is the seventh and current Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. She was sworn in as Prime Minister on May 26, 2010 and is the country's first female Prime Minister. Persad-Bissessar is the political leader of the United National Congress and leads the People's Partnership, a coalition of five parties, formed for the general election of 24 May 2010.
